"It's a brave man who signs his wife up with a personal trainer despite her protestations. "You'll enjoy it", he said... I won't, I thought. "Don't you want to look like the girls in these after pictures?", he said thrusting the iPad under my nose. No, not badly enough to actually go hungry. I didn't really want abs, I didn't want to not eat what I wanted when I wanted, and I definitely didn't want to puff and pant over a spinning bike or some other instrument of torture for hours on end. Thanks but no thanks. In fairness, the middle age spread was creeping up on me and I'd fallen in to the habit of skipping meals. So I gave in and filled in the forms. If nothing else it'd be good leverage in arguments for years to come... "Remember the time you basically called me fat and hired a man to fix me?" Fast forward four months and I have those abs I didn't want, I can't remember feeling this energetic since before I had children and I am the strongest and fittest I've ever been. from our first session, Mike allayed all my fears, the biggest of which was going hungry. Turns out folks that you can eat an impossibly varied diet of foodie food several times a day and still lose fat and tone up. I'm eating more than I have ever eaten in my life. My second biggest fear was becoming muscular and manly. Needn't have worried about that either. I have trained with 'heavy for a weedy girl like me' weights for the last four months and I'm so pleased with the results. Ladies, I can't stress this enough, don't be scared to lift weights!! Mike gave me the information and motivation I needed to get my health and fitness back on track. I feel strong, fit and the days of the 2.30pm slump are long gone. I won't lie and say it's always been easy. There have been training sessions I could have stormed out of in a sweaty mess but the sense of achievement you have afterwards is worth the hard work. (One of the things I like most about Mike is he isn't phased by an angry, hungry, sweaty girl hissing profanities at him between sets) So, after all that all I want to say is if you're thinking about making some changes Mike's the man for the job!
